Hi, I’m Javier Puga-Phillips. I’m a real estate broker with Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty in Portland, Oregon, and Vice Chair of Pride Connect. I help people buy and sell homes in Portland, Beaverton, and Lake Oswego, in English and Spanish.
I’m also gay, Latino, and an immigrant from Mexico. Those parts of my life shape how I work, and they’re a big reason I care so much about helping people feel at home.
From Mexico to California to Portland
I was born in Mexico and started my real estate career in Southern California in 2005. That’s more than 20 years of helping people through one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
When I started, I was deep in the closet. It took time for me to learn to accept and love myself. I know many people, in this industry and among my clients, who have walked that same road. That experience is why I want everyone I work with to feel seen, respected, and free to be themselves.
In 2020, my husband, Isaac, and I moved from Los Angeles to Portland when he received a job offer. We stayed in a short-term rental, explored the city in person, found our home, and made Portland ours. Today we live in Northeast Portland. I share more about that move in Moving to Portland, Oregon as an LGBTQ+ Person.
How I help my clients
- Buyers, including first-time buyers, from the first lender conversation to closing day. See my first-time buyer guide.
- Sellers, with a plan built around their home, timeline, and goals. See my guide to getting ready to sell.
- People relocating to or from Portland, including LGBTQ+ individuals and families.
- Spanish-speaking clients, with every step explained in the language they’re most comfortable with. Lea mi guía para comprar casa en español.
One of my strengths is helping buyers and sellers navigate cultural differences in a transaction. Whether it’s a family buying their first home, a couple relocating from another state, or a client more comfortable in Spanish, I want everyone to understand every step and feel confident in their decisions.
I welcome clients of all backgrounds and give everyone the same care, honesty, and commitment.
Pride Connect and a network beyond Portland
I serve as Vice Chair of Pride Connect, a Sotheby’s International Realty affinity group for LGBTQIA+ advisors and allies, with a focus on membership. In October 2026, I hosted the Pride Connect party at the Sotheby’s International Realty Global Networking Event in San Francisco.
Those relationships matter for my clients. If you’re moving to another city, I can introduce you to an agent I trust there. If you’re moving to Portland, that same network often leads people to me. Read more in The Power of a Global Network.
What it’s like to work with me
I start by listening. Before we talk about homes or prices, I want to understand what you hope to accomplish and what worries you. From there, you can expect clear explanations, honest advice, and no pressure. Sometimes the right move is to go forward. Sometimes it’s to wait or walk away. Either way, I’ll help you think it through.
